Alleged Herdsmen attack: Plateau community count losses









Suspected herdsmen have attacked Rantis village in the Barikin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing an unspecified number of persons.

Meanwhile, it was, learned that the herders stormed the village, Thursday night, and opened fire on villagers.

A resident of the village, Gyang Pam said the attack came; as residents were trying to pick up the pieces following a similar attack, in 2020.

“Our people have managed to return home to rebuild the village after the same hoodlums sacked it two years ago. For them to come again yesterday means they don’t want our people back home,” he lamented.

The spokesperson for the Plateau State Police, ASP Uba Gabriel did not answer calls to his mobile phone to confirm the incident.

Meanwhile, this latest attack on communities in Plateau state, by suspected herdsmen, came at a time the state government is making efforts to bring peace between the two groups.

It could be recalled that the Miyetti Allah, Plateau state branch, complained of the poisoning of their animals by youths.

This according to Miyetti Allah, has forced the cattle rearers to arm themselves to protect their animals from the youths.

However, Plateau state governor, Simon Lalong has appealed to the communities affected to stop any retaliatory measures as the state government is looking into the matter to bring a lasting solution to the crisis.

Lalong commended the security agencies in the state for the way they are handling the farmers/herdsmen crisis.

Plateau state has enjoyed relative peace until the recent skirmishes.

Kaduna, Niger, Kogi, Zamfara, Katsina, and Sokoto states, have become the epicenter of herdsmen /farmers clashes
