70 old houses to be demolished in Lagos state.

A statement by LASBCA spokesman, Mr Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, on Friday reaveled that the General Manager of the agency Gbolahan Oki, is to supervise the demolition exercise.

Oki addressing the development said that the purpose was to end the "Era of Building" for the safety of people.

He said that the agency had identified and marked in general 70 distressed buildings within the state for removal of which  20 of the structures were discovered on Lagos Island.

Oki assure that none of houses would be destroyed except after the Non Destructive Tests NDTs that will be carried out on affected buildings in order to confirm their structural standards.

He added that the houses that showed positive to the test would either demolished or renovated if found to still be safe for human habitation.

A clip from his statement read,

“government has absolute zero tolerance for building collapse, hence all building codes regulation within the state would be strictly enforced”.

He also noted that he and his team has visited the different demolition sites and asked the residents to relocate for their safety.
