"Respect the Nigeria": CBN Warns Nigerians


Thursday, June 10th, during the commencement of the CBN two-day sensitisation fair held in Abeokuta, the apex bank of Nigeria, condemned the rate at which Nigerians misuse and abuse the naira notes.

Assistant Director at the Currency Operations Department, Aladeen Badajo warned that people should desist from such or risk being penalised. He said that a lot of money goes into reprinting currency notes, and urged that the people should consider the currency as a symbol of national identity.

He warned:

Abuse of the currency attracts a penalty of not less than six months or a fine of not less than N50,000 or both.

The Acting Director, Corporate Communications Department, CBN, Osita Nwanisiobi said the bank attached great importance to sensitisation programmes.
