Bad breath, also known as halitosis, is the foul smell . Bad breath has to be dealt with because it is inconveniencing, not just for the person with the condition, but also for those around them. While some people will resort to avoiding someone with bad breath, there are some who would be outright rude and condescending in approach.

Some lifestyle changes can ease this condition. Follow the steps below to help yourself:

1.     Brush



The sticky substance that builds up on teeth is known as plaque. Plaque contains bacteria that cause bad breath.

 

It is recommended to brush teeth twice a day, or more. Just be careful not to overdo, which could have consequences.

 

2.     Scrape your tongue



Stick out your tongue in a mirror.

What do you see? A whitish coating on your tongue? Yuck! That material is a host for smelly bacteria.

To get rid of them, scrape your tongue gently with your toothbrush while brushing. This removes food remnants and bacteria.

 

3.     Rinse your mouth

After eating, then what?

 

You can rinse your mouth with plain water after a meal to get rid of food particles stuck in your teeth which can attract bacteria that cause bad breath.

 

Using an effective mouthwash could also suffice, if one can afford.

 

4.     Avoid foods with strong smells

Brushing after eating foods like garlic and onions doesn’t control bad breath. This is because some substances in them enter your bloodstream and then your lungs, where you breathe them out.

 

Avoid such foods when you have to go out.

 

5.     Embrace chewing gums

Chewing gums stimulate saliva, and saliva is a natural defense against tooth decay and bad breath.

Your best bet is sugarless chewing gum. Mouth use sugar to make acid that causes bad breath.

 

6.     Drink Yoghurt and milk



Yoghurt contains healthy bacteria that combats bad bacteria in the body. These yoghurt probiotics effectively reduce the severity of bad breath.

Milk is also an effective solution for bad breath. Drink milk during or after eating strong-smelling (like garlic and onions) to reduce bad breath.
